The ChatGPT App Just Changed Everything!
ChatGPT app
You know how awesome ChatGPT is, right? It’s the coolest chatbot ever. And you know what we’ve always wanted? An optimized ChatGPT for our phones. But up until now, all we get is those fake and crappy apps. But today is different because OpenAI has just announced groundbreaking news.
The Official ChatGPT App Is Here!
Before this, ChatGPT was only available on the web, which meant you had to use a browser to access it. But not anymore. OpenAI has launched their official ChatGPT app and the Internet is going wild over it.
What Is ChatGPT App?
ChatGPT app features
Just like its web version, the ChatGPT app is completely free to use. And it has all the features just like the web-based ChatGPT you know and love:
- Instant answers: Ask ChatGPT anything and get a clear and relevant answer without any ads or distractions.
- Tailored advice: Get help with cooking, travel plans, or writing from ChatGPT. It will give you personalized suggestions and tips.
- Creative inspiration: Let ChatGPT inspire you with gift ideas, presentation outlines, or poems. It will generate some options for you to choose from.
- Professional input: Improve your work with ChatGPT. It will give you feedback, summaries, and assistance on any topic.
- Learning opportunities: Learn new things with ChatGPT. It will teach you new languages, modern history, and more at your own speed.
You can use the app anytime, anywhere, and for anything.
What’s The Difference?
You might be wondering what’s the difference between using the app and the web browser. Well, there are quite a few differences:
- GPT 3.5 is the new default: Yes, you read that right. You don’t need to have a ChatGPT Plus account to access 3.5 anymore. The app automatically uses GPT 3.5 for all your chats, which means more accuracy, more diversity, and more fun.
- Faster than on browser: The app is optimized for mobile devices, which means it runs faster and smoother than the web browser. You don’t have to wait for the web page to load or deal with laggy performance.
- Voice-to-text is here: With the help of Whisper, you can now talk to ChatGPT without the need for a third-party app.
- Amazing haptics: The app has amazing haptics that gives satisfying feedback as you type and interact with ChatGPT. You can feel the little ticks as ChatGPT types out words for you. You can also feel the ChatGPT icon expanding and collapsing when you click in and out of the text box. It’s a subtle but delightful detail that enhances your experience.
- Beautiful interface: The app has a beautiful interface that matches the overall theme of Apple. It has a minimalist design that resembles an Apple app. It’s sleek, elegant, and easy to use.
Where Are All The Plug-ins?
If you’re a Plus user and you’ve downloaded the app, you might be wondering where the plug-ins are. Don’t worry, they’re still there. They’re just a bit hard to find.
The app is still in beta testing, so OpenAI hasn’t added a search bar for plug-ins yet. That means you can’t look for them in the app.
The only way to access plug-ins in the app is through your chat history. If you’ve used any plug-ins on your computer before, you can use them again in the app.
But if you want to use a new plug-in in the app, you have to activate it on your computer first. That’s kind of annoying, we know. But that’s the only way to do it for now. Hopefully, OpenAI will fix this soon.
How To Install ChatGPT App?
You want to chat with ChatGPT on your phone, right? Well, it’s super easy to get the app. Just go to the App Store and look for “ChatGPT” or tap on this link: https://apps.apple.com/app/openai-chatgpt/id6448311069
The app is free and awesome, so you don’t have to pay anything or sign up for anything. (Except for the Plus account of course). Once you download the app, you can chat with ChatGPT right away.
Only Available In The US
Only in the US
Now, before you get too excited, there is one catch. The ChatGPT app is currently only available for iOS users in the US. That means if you live outside of the US or use an Android phone, you’ll have to wait a little longer to get the app.
Why is that? Well, ChatGPT is still in beta testing and OpenAI wants to make sure it works well and safely before releasing it worldwide. As they said in their announcement:
We’re starting our rollout in the US and will expand to additional countries in the coming weeks. We’re eager to see how you use the app. As we gather user feedback, we’re committed to continuous feature and safety improvements for ChatGPT.
So don’t worry, if you’re not in the US or on iOS, you’ll still be able to chat with ChatGPT soon enough. OpenAI has promised that they will bring the app to Android and other countries as soon as possible.
ChatGPT App Alternatives
If you are living outside the US or using an Android phone, you might be feeling left out by the ChatGPT app. But don’t worry, there are still some ways you can use ChatGPT on your phone. Here are some of the options you can try:
Use ChatGPT On The Browser
One of the simplest and most obvious ways is to continue using ChatGPT the way you already have been using it. Just go to your browser and type chat.openai.com and you can chat with ChatGPT as usual.
Of course, you won’t be able to enjoy all the cool features of the app, but it’s better than nothing, right?
And if you find it troublesome to go to your browser and type the URL every time, there’s another way to make it easier and faster:
Add ChatGPT To Your Home Screen
You can have an app-like experience without having the app itself with 2 simple steps:
Add ChatGPT to home screen
Step 1: Go to Safari and type chat.openai.com
Step 2: Click the share icon and choose Add to Home Screen
Now you will have an icon on your home screen that will take you directly to ChatGPT in Safari. It’s not exactly the same as having the app, but it’s close enough.
But what if you really want that voice-to-text feature that the app has? Well, you can use ChatGPT with Siri but that would take too much effort. And there’s a better and faster way:
Bing To The Rescue
Bing app
Free GPT-4, voice activation, and mobile optimized. Sounds like a scam, doesn’t it? But actually, it’s just Bing. Yes, Bing. The search engine that you probably forgot existed. But guess what? Bing has a chatbot feature that is powered by GPT-4 and it works on your phone!
Bing is also free to use. You can download the Bing app on both iOS and Android by searching for it on the App Store or Google Play.
Bing’s chatbot is not exactly the same as ChatGPT, but it’s pretty close. It can answer your questions, give you advice, inspire your creativity, and help you learn new things. And it has a voice-to-text feature that lets you talk to it using your microphone.
Of course, Bing’s chatbot is not as advanced as ChatGPT. It doesn’t have all the GPT-4 capabilities like plug-ins or accurate voice-to-text like Whisper. But in the meantime, it’s the best we’ve got.

For Those Who Want The ChatGPT App Still
If none of these options satisfy you and you want to install the ChatGPT app, there is a way to do that. You just need to change your App Store country or region to the United States.
Here’s how you can do that on your iPhone:
Get ChatGPT app outside the US
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap your name, then tap Media & Purchases.
- Tap View Account. You may be asked to sign in.
- Tap Country/Region.
- Tap Change Country or Region.
- Tap United States, then review the terms and conditions.
- Tap Agree in the top right-hand corner, then tap Agree again to confirm.
Now you can go to the App Store and search for “ChatGPT” or click on this link: https://apps.apple.com/app/openai-chatgpt/id6448311069
You should be able to download and use the ChatGPT app now. But be aware that this might affect your other apps and purchases on your device.
However, this method only works in a few instances that we have tested so if it doesn’t work for you maybe try all the methods that we have mentioned above instead.
We strongly advise against using those mockup apps that you find on the App Store because you will never know if they are legit or not.
Users feedback
Since this is a relatively new app and our experience alone wouldn’t be enough to cover every aspect of it. So we when to the expert - on the Internet to see what are their thought about OpenAi’s latest invention.
Amazing app: Similar to us, many have tried the app, and most of their feedback is positive. The app is aesthetically pleasing, it delivers all the features that were promised, and the haptics are amazing.
Huge potential: Some people are already dreaming of what the app could do in the future. They imagine having ChatGPT as a virtual assistant like Siri but smarter. They want to talk to ChatGPT on the phone, get help from ChatGPT on social media and other apps, and more. That would be a game-changer.
Phone heating up: The only downside of the app is that it drains the battery and makes the phone hot. Some people think it’s because of the haptics. Some Reddit users have suggested turning off the feature in the app settings to prevent this.
ChatGPT app worldwide
Not available: The biggest bummer for most people. If you’re an Android user or live outside the US, you can’t get the app yet. And that sucks. You want to try this new thing but you can’t. But don’t lose hope. The app is already out in some other countries, so maybe it won’t be long before it comes to Android and everywhere else. Fingers crossed.
Is ChatGPT App worth the hype?
We think so. Even though it’s only in beta testing, we are impressed by its design and capabilities. It’s a breakthrough in AI and mobile technology.
If OpenAI continues to develop and improve this app, we think that ChatGPT will soon be the ultimate all-in-one app with its plug-in features and will set a new standard for future apps. This means that we will benefit greatly from all of these upcoming large language model apps.
